Founded in 2002, the Bay State Equine Rescue's mission is to preserve equine integrity through care that provides physical, mental and emotional health. Our focus is the rescue and rehabilitation of equines void of a human advocate, abused, neglected, or abandoned. Our goal is to raise public awareness of equine neglect through regional youth education, legislation, horsemanship education, animal care awareness, and community service opportunities. We are working toward a standard of excellence to create a model which, when duplicated, will unite rescues nationwide to abolish mistreatment and disrespect of horses in this country.

What We Do

This rescue is very unique - our mission is to preserve equine integrity, but in doing so we also preserve human integrity. When a horse is rescued, we follow the progress through to the best possible recovery. Ultimately each horse will finds its forever home - BSER is not in the business of moving large numbers of horses. If a great home can be found for a horse we will make it available to a loving, caring family for adoption. If the horse stays at the rescue forever, that too is fine. At BSER each of our charges knows it is safe, sheltered, loved and cared for.

Education and Action

To begin to end abuse and neglect of horses education is required. BSER is in the forefront of providing the tools necessary to make responsible choices regarding equine ownership. Through clinics, booths, and resources we help people research, create a plan and make realistic decisions regarding their position in a horses life. Many youth groups visit and learn all avenues of horse happiness.

What We Learn from Our Equine Charges

To be in the presence of a horse is a privilege, an honor. Everyday we learn from the horses that find shelter here at Bay State Equine Rescue. Their strength and courage in the face of tremendous adversity has taught us lessons of acceptance, forgiveness and perseverance.
